The House

Glen Bank is a traditional Cumbrian longhouse with a twist.  With stunning views of the Pennines and just yards from a village pub once frequented by Oliver Cromwell, it’s the perfect luxury holiday accommodation for family and friends in Cumbria.

The property dates back to 1755 and has been lovingly restored to retain many original features while sensitively introducing every modern day comfort.  A generous orangery with underfloor heating and woodburner sets the scene. There are two further woodburners and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. Whether  there is snow on the ground or the sun is shining, Glen Bank will meet your every need.

The stunning orangery with bespoke 12 seater larch dining table is flooded with light and is the perfect dining room for you and your guests.

Opening onto the central courtyard, it offers the flexibility of the  wood burning stove and underfloor heating for cold winter days or just throw open the doors and flick on the  ceiling fans to cool it down in those long summer days.

The Garden

Designing the gardens and outdoor spaces has been a labour of love that was based on establishing a number of interesting spaces for large groups to socialise along with private areas for individuals or small groups to get some quiet time.

The result has been a bright central courtyard that is a sun trap for much of the day, surrounded by planting and equipped with a large table, chairs and benches. This leads up to the raised garden that features areas of local sandstone, slate and other decorative stone pebbles around beds with mature planting and topped off with a wild garden and wooded area.

The huge deck at the top of the garden has tables and chairs and gives amazing 360 views. A barbeque is tucked away on a separate terrace under a pergola. Finally the private Library courtyard is discreetly tucked away behind the orangery – the perfect place to sneak away for a snooze!
